Book signing is Saturday

Published:

Iris Paris of Crawford will sign copies of her new book, "Once Upon a Chariot," 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, in the Chicoine Atrium of the Sandoz Center at Chadron State College.

"My mind races as my legs pump and the ground flies beneath me. The scenery moves by like so many feet of paper on my mother's player piano, rolling, playing, and measuring my progress."

With that, Paris begins the intriguing journal of her mother, Norma Jean Belloff, who raced from New York to San Diego on bicycle in 53 days in 1948. Belloff established the United States record for women's cross-country cycling.

Publicity material states that the story is told with charm and wit and will "grab readers' attention and their hearts.

"Portrayals of the people she met and the experiences she encountered, told first-hand, enlighten us to a simpler time that was still wrought with the social difficulties we find today."

Remarks will begin at 2 p.m. with time for questions at the end. Refreshments will be served.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase for $13.99 with tax included in the price.
