Bayard man wins chess tournament

Loren Pospisil of Bayard claimed the championship of the Chadron State College Chess Tournament in the Kline Center on Saturday.

The tournament, which consisted of four rounds of competition, was sponsored by the Northwest Gamesters Association, an organization comprised of Chadron State students, alumni, faculty and staff.

Steve Cary of Lakewood, Colo., was the runner-up of the tournament while Brad Wilburn of Chadron finished third. Shertock “Ayush” Lama, a CSC student from Nepal, finished fourth, while club sponsor Ron Miller was fifth. Mark Brezina of Chadron won a tie-breaker to edge Lance Paris of Crawford for sixth.
