Third-graders to 'Dance for the Health of It'

About 115 third-graders will take part in “Dance for the Health of It” at Chadron State College on Wednesday, Oct. 24. The five-hour event will be in the Nelson Physical Activity Center beginning at 9 a.m.

Students from a half dozen schools in Dawes and Sheridan counties are scheduled to participate.

Dawn Brammer, a CSC health, physical education and recreation faculty member, said the third-graders will learn various dance techniques and health tips from CSC students and faculty members at 12 stations in the NPAC. Brammer’s students will operate the health stations while fellow HPER faculty member Donna Ritzen’s classes will be in charge of the dance lessons.

“Learning how to dance will give these students an activity that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives,” Brammer said. “Since PE time at many schools has become increasingly limited, it’s important that educators promote healthy lifestyles with activities like this.”

The event is being funded from grants from the Nebraska Panhandle Public Health District and the Nebraska Beef Council. While at CSC, the students will eat a lunch that contains beef.
