State Patrol superintendent to speak at CSC

Col. Bryan Tuma of the Nebraska State Patrol will tell about his 28 years in the NSP during an appearance at Chadron State College. Tuma’s presentation will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, in the Student Center. It is open to the public free of charge.

Tuma was appointed superintendent of the NSP in June 2005, after accumulating a long list of law enforcement experiences. His previous NSP job titles include drug investigator, director of training, troop area commander and the commander of the Administrative Services Division. He also has served on a number of committees, work groups and advisory boards related to Nebraska’s highway transportation, emergency preparedness and safety issues.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1977. He has completed a number of law enforcement supervision and command schools, including the 175th session of the FBI National Academy and the FBI Leadership and Executive Development Seminar.

Tuma’s presenation is the second installment of the CSC Justice Studies Department’s Fall 2007 Speaker Series which is featuring experts of Nebraska law. Michael Heavican, chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, will speak Thursday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m. in the same location.
