State college board to meet at CSC

Published:

The Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges will be meeting at Chadron State College on Thursday and Friday, April 12 and 13.

The board is required to meet annually on each of the three state college campuses. In recent years, it has usually visited Chadron State in September, but in 2006-07 the board chose to meet at Wayne State then and to come to Chadron in April.

Numerous meetings of councils made up of officials from each of the three colleges and committees of the board are scheduled for Thursday in the Student Center. The official board meeting will begin at 9 a.m. Friday in the Chicoine Atrium of the Sandoz Center.

No high profile items are on the agenda, but the board is expected to act on the system’s salaries for 2007-08 and the renewal of several contracts.

It is also anticipated that the board will authorize Chancellor Stan Carpenter to approve a construction contract for renovation of the Administration Building at Chadron State.

The meeting will be the first at Chadron State for the two newest board members. They are Gary Bieganski, formerly of McCook and now of Chadron, who was appointed by Gov. Dave Heineman last June, and Floyd Vrtiska of Table Rock, who was appointed in January.

The other board members are Willa Kosman of Scottsbluff, Larry Teahon of Chadron, Bill Roskins of Omaha, Carter “Cap” Peterson of Wayne and Doug Christensen, the state commissioner of education.

Each of the colleges is represented by a student trustee. Tyler Pribbeno of Imperial has been the Chadron State representative during the past year. The governor recently appointed Tyler Thompson, a graduate of Gering High School, to fill the position beginning May 1.
