Many activities scheduled for Homecoming

A full slate of activities is scheduled for Chadron State College’s Homecoming, which will be celebrated Thursday through Saturday. The highlights include the announcement of royalty finalists at 7 p.m. Thursday in Armstrong Gym. The ceremonial lighting of C Hill will follow.

On Friday, the Chadron State alumni are invited to gather for a barbecue at the American Legion Club from 5-7 p.m. The spirit rally and bonfire will be at 7 p.m. at the outdoor basketball court near Kent Hall.

Leading up to the Eagles’ football game against the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Saturday, the morning will feature the Eagle Run/Walk at 8:30 a.m., the parade down Main Street at 9:30 a.m., a luncheon at 11 a.m. to recognize Distinguished Alumni and Hall of Fame award recipients and a tailgating contest south of Don Beebe Stadium. A pair of former CSC Homecoming queens are returning to Chadron to serve as the parade marshals. They are Helen DeLaine (McCray) Roth of Gordon, 1941, and Leora (Zeman) Kennedy of Lander, Wyo., 1947.

The king, queen and their court will be announced during halftime of the game, which kicks off at 1:30 p.m.

Halftime also will feature a performance by Alliance High School’s 180-piece band, and the introduction of CSC’s Athletic Hall of Fame and Distinguished Alumni Award recipients.

The festivities also will include two reunions for World War II era groups – the Survivors Luncheon at Prairie Pines Lodge at noon Thursday and the Purple Passion Reunion in the Best Western Motel at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
