Mallets and Ivory concert is Sunday

Two Chadron State College music ensembles will join to present the sixth annual Mallets & Ivory holiday concert Sunday, Dec. 2, at 3 p.m. in Memorial Hall. The concert is open to the public free of charge.

The CSC percussion ensemble, directed by Dr. Sandy Schaefer, provides the “mallets” portion of the program while the keyboard ensemble, directed by Jim Margetts, plays the “ivory.” The ensembles also will be joined by vocalist Karin Keller of Chadron and a brass ensemble led by Dr. Adam Lambert.

“We are excited to add the brass numbers to the program this year,” Margetts said. “These arrangements by the internationally known Candadian Brass are really fun, and are scored for brass quintet and digital keyboard, which seemed like a natural fit for us.”

The concert is being billed as an exhilarating modern take on traditional Christmas music.

Students involved in the performance are David Barger, Hershey; Will Broeder, Mitchell; Jamie Buss, Peetz, Colo.; Sarah Douglas, North Platte; Cynthia Gillespie, Alliance; Josh Meyer, Grand Island; Wes Mitchell, Rapid City, S.D.; Amanda Morris, Lincoln; Steven Mowen, San Juan, Puerto Rico; Ahnya Trave, Bayard; and Aaron Vigen, Chadron.
