Ivy Day royalty crowned at Chadron State

Kelsey Stevens of Yankton, S.D., and Corey Wasserburger of Fort Worth, Texas, were crowned the Ivy Day royalty at Chadron State College on Friday evening.

Stevens is a human biology major who has been the historian for Cardinal Key National Honor Society this past year. In late April, she spoke on research she had conducted at the Nebraska Academy of Sciences annual meeting in Lincoln.

Wasserburger has majored in both legal studies and history and received the award as the outstanding senior scholar in both departments. He was president of the Student Senate, the Legal Studies Club and the Political Science Club this past year. He also has been treasurer of Blue Key, which joins Cardinal Key in sponsoring Ivy Day.

First attendants to the royal couple were Erin Legerski of Rock Springs, Wyo., and Zach Nesbitt of Imperial. Other attendants to the queen were Avery Shaw of Potter, Shannon Anslover of North Platte and Mary Andrews of Rapid City, S.D. The other attendants to the king were Jack Sides of Hot Springs, S.D., Scott Wewel of Ainsworth and Kyle Demoray of Chadron.

Wasserburger and Shaw were the Ivy Day orators. The faculty greeter was Carola Winkle, a member of the CSC music faculty who announced her resignation this spring.

Wasserburger was one of four graduates to receive two awards as the outstanding seniors in their departments. The others presented two awards were Melissa Harp of North Platte, accounting and business administration; Melissa Pohl of Chadron, English and history; and LaRae Tronstad of Powell, Wyo., communication arts and mathematics.
