Education professors published in Australia journal

A pair of Chadron State College professors co-authored an article that was published in the fall edition of Education in Rural Australia. “Improving Student Outcomes in Rural and Small Schools,” was written by education faculty members Clark Gardener and Art Borgemenke.

In the opening pages of the publication, Colin Boylan of Charles Stuart University wrote that the Chadron State professors have provided readers with “a fascinating insight into how the No Child Left Behind American federal government legislation is impacting on small rural schools in the state of Nebraska.”

In the article, Borgemenke and Gardener argue that solutions to school improvement are more likely to be successful using locally implemented solutions that draw upon the knowledge and skills of the staff in the rural schools. They say school improvement needs to focus on the whole child and empower teachers in the development of place based school improvement strategies.
