CSC taking steps to ensure safety
In the wake of Monday’s shootings at Virginia Tech University, officials at Chadron State College are taking steps to ensure safety on its campus.
Chadron State President Dr. Janie Park is convening the college’s Emergency Response Task Force, a broad-based group of more than a dozen people, that includes college officials and representatives of law enforcement and public safety agencies.
Park said the task force will discuss possible measures to increase safety at CSC and examine existing campus procedures that limit risk in the event of an incident.
“Safety always is a big concern for Chadron State. In addition to the task force, we have a committee devoted to safety and have developed plans for all kinds of emergencies,” Park said. “In light of recent events, we want to be as prepared as possible.”
Park spoke to Chadron State students in the cafeteria during lunch Tuesday and during a campus-wide informational meeting in the Student Center later that afternoon.
“We believe Chadron State is as safe as any campus anywhere, but know that we are part of a larger world that has many problems,” she said. “Events like this give us cause to look at our security measures.”
Park encouraged students to notify college security officers or other personnel if they notice any behavior that “doesn’t seem quite right.”
