A new justice studies professor at Chadron State College is Dr. Jamie Wada, a native of eastern Oregon who received his doctorate in higher education administration from Washington State University in July.

Wada earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice administration from Boise State University, but there was a 12-year gap between the commencements.

Most of that time, Wada said he was “the hired man” on the family farm where the principle crops were onions and potatoes. For five years during this period, he was a volunteer in a sheriff’s reserve unit.

Immediately after earning his master’s degree in 2003, he began working on his doctorate at Washington State.

His dissertation for his doctorate was titled “Betwixt and Between: The Dilemma of Campus Police.” He has been a presenter at the American Criminal Justice Society conference. He is single.

At Chadron State, Wada will teach courses in criminology, youth gangs and criminal investigation. He said he considers policing to be his specialty.
