About 230 people are expected to participate in the Nebraska Department of Education’s third annual Diversity in Education Conference at Chadron State College Student Center on Monday, Sept. 24.

Peg Kirby of the Department of Education said about 100 of the registrants for the all-day symposium are students, while others are education professionals.

The conference’s presenters include Dr. Steve Van Bockern, professor of education at Augustana College and dean of the Reclaiming Youth Institute, and Dr. Gayle H. Gregory, who has taught courses in classrooms ranging from elementary to postsecondary. Gregory is the former course director at York University for the Faculty of Education.

The conference is the first of two symposiums sponsored by the Department of Education this fall. The Native American Symposium will be at Wayne State College on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The registration deadline for Monday’s conference has passed, but sign-ups for the Native American Symposium will be accepted through Saturday, Oct. 20.
