The Chadron State College concert choir will be visiting four high schools the Black Hills this week and conclude its trip with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 20 at the United Methodist Church at 629 Kansas City Street in Rapid City. The concert will be open to the public free of charge.

The 40-voice choir is directed by Dr. Joel Schreuder. It will sing several sacred numbers, including “Exultate Deo,” which translated to English becomes “Sing for Joy to God,” and “Os Justi,” or “The Righteous.”

Also to be presented are “Water Night,” which Schreuder said is the choir’s “workhorse piece” this semester, and several gypsy songs that were written in German by Johannes Brahms, but have been translated to English.

The program also will include several numbers by the men’s ensemble, including a pair of sacred numbers, “We Adore You” and “Set Me as a Seal.” They will be followed by three English numbers that will be sung as “catches,” or rounds.

Also on the lighter side will be “The Art of the Ground Round” written by the infamous P.D.Q. Bach.

The women’s ensemble also will be performing during the concert.

The Chadron State choral group will sing for the choirs at Central and Stevens High Schools in Rapid City on Thursday morning and attend a concert by Ukranian pianist Valentina Lisitsa in Rapid City that evening.

On Friday, the CSC students will sing for the choirs at Sturgis High School at 8:30 a.m. and Spearfish High School at 1:30 p.m.
