Chief justice is next up in speaker series
A speech by Michael Heavican, chief justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court, will close the fall Justice Studies Department Speaker Series at Chadron State College this week.
Heavican's presentation will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the Student Center and is open to the public free of charge.
Heavican was appointed to his current post in October 2006. From 2001-2006, he served as a U.S. attorney in Nebraska and was an assistant U.S. attorney for 10 years prior. After earning a bachelor’s degree and juris doctorate from the University of Nebraska, he got his start as a deputy in the Lancaster County Attorney’s office in 1975 and ultimately obtained the agency's top post.
