Chadron youth wins showmanship title

Colby Riesen of Chadron was the overall livestock showmanship winner during the recent competition sponsored by the agriculture program at Chadron State College. He entered the finals as the champion sheep showman from the junior division. He was presented a belt buckle.

Thirty-five youths from Dawes and Sheridan Counties participated in the contest, making it the largest ever. Members of the CSC Ag Club served as the official judges. They are Sarah Andreasen of Nelson, Neb., sheep; Jessica Baker of Kimball, swine; Amy Amack of Chadron, beef; and Amy Mehrens of Torrington, horses.

The two top contestants in each of the divisions, by species, follow:

Pee Wee Division (7 years and under):

Sheep—Shaylee Landreth, Gordon, and Clark Riesen, Chadron.

Swine—Kaylee Garrett and Jayce Garrett, both of Chadron.

Horses—Ellie Mitchell and Ayla Kephart, both of Chadron.

Beef—Hayden Thompson, Whitney, and Tierny George, Chadron.

Overall—Kaylee Garrett and Hayden Thompson.

Novice Division (8-18):

Sheep—Jaci Thompson and Lauralee Tangwall, both of Whitney.

Swine—Jayden Garrett, Chadron, and Jacob Ballard.

Horses—Brooke Howard, Whitney, and Sarah Webb.

Beef—Layne George and Alex Menke, both of Chadron.

Overall—Jaci Thompson and Brooke Howard.

Junior Division (8-13):

Sheep—Colby Riesen, Chadron, and Lindsey Landreth, Gordon.

Swine—Layne Riesen, Chadron, and Jaden George, Chadron.

Horses—Whitney George and Rachel Crane, both of Chadron.

Beef—Jamie Thomson and Roby Tangwall, both of Whitney.

Overall—Colby Riesen and Layne Riesen.

Senior Division (14-18):

Sheep—Taya Lembke, Hemingford, and Amanda Elwess, Chadron.

Swine—Tanner Lembke, Hemingford, and Amanda Elwess, Chadron.

Horses—Crystal Schuhmacher, Chadron, and Tanner Lembke.

Beef—Crystal Schuhmacher and Taya Lembke.

Overall—Taya Lembke and Crystal Schuhmacher.
