Spring storm cuts attendance at CSC Scholastic Contest

Published:

Blowing snow greatly reduced the number of schools and students at the 46th annual Inter-High School Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College on Friday, but more than 800 students from 34 schools did take the tests. Most of the 18 schools that could not enter the event were from the south and southeast.

As has become their custom, three Rapid City schools were class winners. Rapid City Stevens won Class I for the 18th time in the past 22 years, St. Thomas More captured Class III for the 11th time in the last 12 years and Rapid City Christian won Class IV for the fourth consecutive year.

The other winners were Valentine in Class II and Mullen in Class V. Valentine also won Class II in 1995. Mullen also won Class V in 2003.

The contest had two double gold medal winners. Chang Liu of Rapid City Central, was first in both Physics and Trigonometry and Sara McCue of Alliance was first in both Library Science/Educational Media and Economics.
