The theatre at Chadron State College’s Memorial Hall will be filled with a spectacular light show Monday, Jan. 23, as Luma, described in publicity materials as a “TechnoCircus,” will take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Loree MacNeill, Chadron State director of cultural programs, said Luma will provide “dazzling entertainment for the entire family.”

The show is the brainchild of a man simply known as Marlin who joined the circus in the 1970s at age 17 and became an accomplished juggler. He became a nationally renowned performer and began adding light to his shows in 1987.

Luma’s Web site, www.lumatheater.com, says “Luma elevates the child-like pleasure of playing with light in the dark (think glowsticks and sparklers) into an astonishing, one-of-a-kind light show. Using darkness as a canvas and light as a brush, Luma’s creator, Marlin, paints dazzling, dancing images that tell stories, conjure surreal worlds, and spin a visual magic that never fails to evoke awe and wonder.”

Luma is part of Chadron State’s Galaxy Series of fine arts events. Tickets reserved before 6 p.m. Monday are $10 for adults, $6 for children and seniors, and free for Chadron State College students and employees. All tickets at the door will be $11.

Tickets may be reserved by calling the Memorial Hall Box Office at (308) 432-6360 from 2-6 p.m. Monday-Friday. During other times, people may leave a message with their phone number on the box office answering machine. Calls will be returned as soon as possible.
