Thirty-two students from various backgrounds are on the campus of Chadron State College this week to study range management. The 2006 Nebraska Range Shortcourse is presented by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Chadron State College and the Nebraska section of the Society for Range Management. The program features 18 instructors, including experts from higher education, state and federal government, conservation organizations and ranching.

The program, which began Sunday and ends Friday, provides the underlying principles of range management for efficient, sustainable use of range for livestock and as a natural resource.

The participants represent a number of occupations, including Natural Resource Conservation Service employees, community college and high school educators, agriculture producers and past and future college students.

A different theme of range management has been addressed each day of the program, including resources, ecology, management, grazing and livestock, and planning. The course will wrap up Friday morning with a final exam.
