Kaila Osmotherly, who also was the orator representing Cardinal Key National Honor Society, was crowned the Ivy Day queen at Chadron State College on Friday evening.

A graduate of Torrington High School, Osmotherly has majored in human and molecular biology and will attend the Pacific University College of Optometry at Forest Grove, Ore., beginning this fall. She was honored as Chadron State’s outstanding senior in molecular biology at Ivy Day. Her parents are Richard and Shannon Osmotherly.

The Ivy Day king is Lex Ravenscroft, a human biology major from Sutherland. He is the son of Ray and Laura Ravenscroft. Both the king and the queen are graduating Cum Laude (GPA of at least 3.6) today.

The Ivy Day orator representing Blue Key National Honor Society was Ed Sydow of Sidney.

Also receiving special recognition Friday night were the college’s two most-recent Student Senate presidents. Karissa Johnson of Hershey, the senate president this year, and Ryan Morgan of Ogallala, the president in 2004-05, were the recipients of the Platinum Eagle Awards that are presented annually to one male and one female for “distinguished leadership and service.” A faculty committee makes the selection. The Platinum Eagles are considered the highest honors a Chadron State student can receive.

Johnson also was first runner-up to the Ivy Day queen.

First runners-up for the Platinum Eagles were Lacey Gulbranson of Mitchell and Adam Wells of St. Paul.

Forty-five seniors were recognized as the outstanding scholars in their academic areas. Two women received dual honors. Elisabeth Saunders of Gillette, Wyo., received the awards in both history and theatre. Malinda Sprentall of Chadron was the recipient in both mathematics and music.

Janette Davidson of Imperial was honored as the outstanding senior in agribusiness and received the Dow Jones and Company Award for personal development and leadership in business courses.
