Several noted speakers and special forms of entertainment are included on the second semester calendar at Chadron State College. The new semester will begin for both on- and off-campus students on Monday, Jan. 9. Applications for enrollment are still being accepted.

One of the first major events on campus will be an Ag Entrepreneur Workshop hosted by U.S. Rep. Tom Osborne on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in the Student Center. Numerous presenters will give information on how to start and grow small businesses in Nebraska.

February will be a particularly busy month at Chadron State. Special events will include the Montana Repertory Theatre’s presentation of “The Trip to Bountiful” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, a talk by children’s book author David Schwartz the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 15, a program by noted cowboy poet Baxter Black at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 18 and the annual Early Childhood Conference on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24 and 25.

Black is a syndicated columnist, has written several books and produced numerous CDs and videos. He frequently recites his poetry on National Public Radio.

Featured speakers at the Early Childhood Conference will include Aaron Davis, a member of the University of Nebraska’s national championship football team in 1994 who discusses the poor choices he made early in his life and how he overcame those pitfalls. Also on the program will be Coloradan Barbara Coloroso, whose topic will be “Parenting With Wit and Wisdom.” Her books include “Parenting Through Crisis” and “Kids Are Worth It,” both of which are highly recommended by child care experts.

The “Trip to Bountiful” and Baxter Black’s appearance are among several Galaxy Series programs that will be featured at CSC during the spring semester.

The first will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, when the LUMA light theatre, described as a “dazzling spectacle that will leave you breathless and on the edge of your seat.” Classical guitarist Robert Bluestone will return to CSC on Wednesday, March 22 for a concert and an unusual multimedia art performance featuring the McCurdy/Wright Consort is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12.
