Dave Noble, the finance officer for the City of Chadron the past 10 years, has resigned to become comptroller at Chadron State College.

Noble will begin his new position June 19, assuming many of the duties previously handled by Dale Grant, who was promoted to interim vice president for administration and finance this month. Grant has filled the vacancy created when Ed Hoffman resigned to become vice chancellor of facilities, planning and information technology for the Nebraska State College System.

Noble is a native of Chadron and a Chadron State graduate. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1991 and his master of business administration degree in 1993. He is a certified management accountant and a certified government financial manager.

As a senior at CSC, he was president of the Student Senate, was the student representative on the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State Colleges and received the Platinum Eagle Award given for outstanding leadership and service.

He was president of the CSC Alumni Association in 2004-05 and remains on the board of directors.

After earning his MBA, Noble was the finance officer for the City of Alliance for three years before assuming that position in Chadron on Feb. 28, 1996.

Noble said the decision to leave the City of Chadron was a difficult one. “This job has provided me with a wonderful experience. I want to thank everyone at City Hall for the support and friendships they have provided. If it wasn’t for the fact that my alma mater has extended this opportunity to me and my family I easily could have spent the rest of my life serving the City of Chadron.”

Both City Manager Al Vacanti and City Clerk Donna Rust said Noble has provided invaluable service to Chadron. Rust said Noble’s expertise has helped the city improve its financial position and has been a vital part of the City Hall “family.” Vacanti said he has appreciated Noble’s calm demeanor in helping him become familiar with the city’s budgeting process.

“His knowledge of tax incentive programs as well as federal and state funding helped me gain a much broader and better perspective of the complexities of city finances,” Vacanti said. “Chadron State is gaining a good man who will be totally committed to its well-being.”

Applications are being received to fill the city’s finance officer vacancy.

At Chadron State, Noble’s basic duties will include overseeing the budget and serving as the purchasing director.

Noble’s wife, Renae, also graduated from Chadron State and is a foreign language and business teacher at Chadron High School. They have three daughters, Ashlynne, Alyssa and Aubree. Noble’s parents are Harold and Bonnie Noble, who live across the street from Grant’s parents on Bordeaux Street in Chadron.
