Lecture series about Celts to be presented at CSC

Beginning in the month that brings St. Patrick’s Day, Chadron State College will be the site of the five-part lecture series, “The Celts and Their World,” presented by Charlie Weir, proprietor of the Black Hills Celtic Shop in Rapid City, S.D.

The series will be in the CSC Student Center for five consecutive Sundays beginning March 12 and ending April 9. Each presentation will begin at 3 p.m. The series is open to the public free of charge.

Weir, who is of Scottish and Welsh heritage, opened the Black Hills Celtic Shop in 1999. He has served as four-term president and member of the board of directors of the Scottish and Irish Society of the Black Hills and teaches local courses on Celtic culture and history. In addition, he is an accomplished leatherworker who makes traditional Scottish leather goods including sporrans and belts. His haggis (lamb and oat sausage), struan (multigrain bread) and other recipes have been in numerous Celtic cookbooks.

Following is the list of program titles by date:

March 12, Saint Patrick and the Irish; March 19, Who Were the Celts and Where Did They All Go?; March 26, The Irish: Celts in Isolation; April 2, The Scots: Celtic Kinship in a Time of Perpetual Warfare; and, April 9, The Welsh: Challenges in Celtic Genealogical Research.
