Chadron State College will “make it official” Friday, April 21, when it celebrates the inauguration of its 10th president, Dr. Janie Park. The event will begin with the inaugural ceremony at 5 p.m. in the Memorial Hall Auditorium. The ceremony will be followed by a reception at the Edna Work Hall lobby. Those events are open to the public free of charge.

A banquet, in which reservations are required, will begin at 7 p.m. in the Student Center ballroom.

A committee has been planning the inaugural festivities since shortly after Park assumed her duties in August 2005.

The ceremony will feature an address by Dr. Ronald Sexton, chancellor of Montana State University-Billings, who was Park’s supervisor when she was employed at MSUB. In addition to Park, others who plan to speak that night are Stan Carpenter, chancellor of the Nebraska State College System, and Willa Kosman, vice chairman of the NSCS Board of Trustees. Dr. Sam Rankin, CSC president emeritus, will deliver the ceremony’s invocation.

Chadron State music groups plan to perform throughout the event. The banquet will feature music, dancing and a video about the new president.

Park, who was provost and academic vice chancellor at MSU-Billings before coming to Chadron State, has become a familiar face around the Chadron State region since assuming the institution’s top post.

In her eight months at Chadron State, Park has taken measures to combat challenges with the college’s enrollment and has provided guidance for a plan to reconfigure the institution’s administrative structure.
