Final CSC concert is Thursday night
Three groups will combine to present the final concert of the school year at Chadron State College at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday April 27 in Memorial Hall. Advance tickets may be obtained through the Memorial Hall Box Office. Tickets also will be available at the door.
The instrumental jazz ensemble under the direction of Dr. Sandy Schaefer will feature Adam Lambert, the CSC director of bands, as trumpet soloist on several selections, including the Maynard Ferguson version of “People” and Arturo Sandoval’s “Sandunga.”
The vocal jazz ensemble directed Dr. Joel Schreuder, will perform some of the selections from its appearance at the Greeley Jazz Festival last week. They include a vocal version of Benny Goodman’s “Sing, Sing, Sing,” a swinging blues number called “Everybody Gets the Blues,” a samba by Michele Weir called “You Don’t Love Me Like You Used To” and Sonny Rollin’s tenor sax hit “Tenor Madness.”
The women’s vocal ensemble under the direction of Dr. Una Taylor, will perform an exciting arrangement of “Come Rain or Shine.”
The concert will be the final one at CSC for four graduating music business majors. They are Ashley Grey of Valentine, Jolana Milburn of Rushville, Travis Norris of Hale, Mo., and Mike Fulton of Norfolk.
Schaefer said these students have been valuable members of both the instrumental and vocal jazz ensembles at some time during their college careers and three of them are current members of the Jazz Birds.
Schaefer said, “I am constantly amazed at the skills of many of our students. At other colleges, it is fairly rare to have students participating in both instrumental and vocal jazz. Both Mike Fulton and Jolana Milburn have made significant contributions to both ensembles.”
