Participants at a Chadron State College conference will again learn ways to improve their child care and education skills. Chadron State College’s 17th Excellence in Early Childhood Conference is Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.

Conference participants will attain information about a wide range of topics related to child care, including innovative ways to incorporate music, art, humor and cooking to a child’s learning experiences, and tips on time management and discipline. The conference’s theme is “United We Stand for Children … As We Discover the Power of Wellness.”

Barbara Coloroso of Littleton, Colo., will be the keynote presenter. The speaker will talk about ways to handle bullying and guidance for helping students become self-disciplined, compassionate and responsible.

In addition to being a well-traveled speaker, Coloroso is an author and a consultant for school districts, the medical and business community, the criminal justice system and other educational associations in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Asia, New Zealand, Australia and Iceland. Coloroso’s opening keynote address will revisit the topic of her most recent book, “The Bullied, The Bully and the Bystander.”

The conference will feature another widely circulated speaker who has earned high marks from audiences at other events. He is Aaron Davis who will talk about the negative impact that poor choices in college and high school have had on his life. Davis is a graduate of the University of Nebraska who was a member of the Cornhuskers’ 1994 national champion football team.

The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 17. More information, including the conference schedule and registration information, can be found at www.csc.edu/ecc.
