Dr. Janie Park, president of Chadron State College, has announced that Dale Grant has been promoted to interim vice president for administration and finance at the college, assuming the position that will be vacated early this summer by Ed Hoffman.

Grant is a native of Chadron and a 1994 graduate of Chadron State. He is a certified public accountant and has been employed at the college since 1998. His current title is director of business services and comptroller. He will take over his expanded duties on June 1, Park said.

Park said the appointment will be for at least a year. A search to fill the position permanently must be conducted because of equal employment opportunities regulations.

Grant graduated from Chadron High School in 1973 and worked as a bridge and building carpenter for the Chicago and North Western Railroad for 12 years and as a residential carpenter for three years before earning his bachelor’s degree from CSC.

Following graduation, he was the finance officer for the Legend Buttes Health Services in Crawford and administrator of the Crawford hospital for about 20 months before working at an accounting firm in Chadron for two years.

Grant’s wife Cherri is the office manager at Chadron High School. She also is a life-long Chadron resident. They have three grown daughters. His parents, Ralph and Jeanelle Grant, live a half block from the Chadron State campus.

It was announced in December that Hoffman will be leaving Chadron State to become vice chancellor of facilities, planning and information technology at the Nebraska State College System headquarters in Lincoln on July 1.

Hoffman has worked at CSC since 1988. He served as director of housing three years and director of physical facilities nearly five years before being promoted to vice president of administration on July 1, 1996.

Hoffman’s duties have included overseeing numerous construction and renovation projects at CSC and supervision of human resources, business and computer services, budget and payroll management, campus maintenance and support personnel.

Park also said late last week that the searches for a vice president of academic affairs and a vice president for enrollment management and student services are progressing and should be completed this spring.
