CSC to host economic development event

Published:

Applications are being received for the HomeTown Competitiveness Academy that will be hosted by Chadron State College on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 12-14. The event will assist rural communities in becoming active in HTC, an economic development initiative that has generated widespread interest and sparked numerous success stories in Nebraska.

The academy will begin at noon Sept. 12 and run through noon, the 14th. It is being sponsored by Chadron State, the Center for Rural Entrepreneurship, the Heartland Center for Leadership Development and the Nebraska Community Foundation.

HTC’s goals include mobilizing local leaders, energizing entrepreneurship, attracting and engaging young people and encouraging senior citizens to remember entities in their hometown when they make estate plans.

Presenters will include Milan Wall, co-director of the Heartland Center; Jana Jensen of Bingham, an assistant development director for the Nebraska Community Foundation; Darryl Birkenfeld of Nazareth, Texas, who has organized HTC programs in the Texas Panhandle and northeastern Colorado-southwestern Nebraska; and two Chadron State business professors, Dr. Tim Donahue and Dr. Augie Bruehlman.

Dr. Lois Veath, vice president of academic affairs at Chadron State, said the complete story about HomeTown Competitiveness will be told during the Academy so it can be activated in western Nebraska.

Further information may be obtained by contacting Veath’s office at 432-6203 or by e-mail at lveath@csc.edu.
