CSC summer school schedule has flexibility

Published:

Convenience and flexibility are hallmarks of this year’s summer school schedule at Chadron State College. “Since most summer school students also work and are involved in various activities we have made the schedule so they can earn credit in a variety of ways and still meet their other obligations,” said Steve Taylor, assistant vice president of extended campus programs and coordinator of the summer school program.

Three four-week sessions are scheduled. The starting dates are May 8, June 5 and July 3. The deadline for pre-registering and making payment for the May courses is Thursday, April 27.

A majority of the courses offered in May are on the undergraduate level. Numerous undergraduate courses also will be available in June and July, along with a large number of graduate-level courses for those seeking master’s or specialist in education degrees.

Besides the on-campus courses, Chadron State will offer numerous courses throughout the summer via interactive television at its regional centers at Alliance, North Platte, Scottsbluff and Sidney.

More than a dozen courses will be available online during each of the summer sessions. Chadron State is also offering several “hybrid” courses in May and June. A portion of the instruction will be in the tradition classroom setting, usually early in the week, with the remainder of the subject matter on-line so it may be completed at the student’s convenience.

As usual, numerous internship opportunities also are available this summer, allowing Chadron State students who have completed at least 35 hours of coursework to earn credit for work experiences that relate to their majors.

Because of the success of last year’s program, Chadron State has greatly expanded its offerings in professional development courses in education. The courses are for teachers seeking recertification and to improve their training in a variety of areas such as classroom management, health and safety, student success, special education and behavioral issues. All these courses are offered in distance learning format and require no classroom time.
