College, middle school students to have honors fair Saturday

Fifty Chadron State College honor students have been mentoring 50 Chadron Middle School students in a variety of projects that will be put on display Saturday, April 1 in Ballroom of the Student Center at CSC during the annual Pursuit of Excellence Honors Fair.

This will be the eighth year for the honors fair, which will begin at 1 p.m. and continue until at least 6 o’clock, according to Jill Reading, the residence hall director for Edna Work Hall, where the CSC students who are involved reside.

Reading said work on the project began about Feb. 1. The Chadron Middle School students usually meet with the college students for about an hour to work on the projects. She said this year’s topics include art, history, mathematics, music and science.

Both written and visual projects have emerged. The middle school students will have 3 ½ minutes to explain their projects to judges on Saturday. Several awards will be presented, including best written paper, most creative project and best researched project.

“I think everyone involved has enjoyed the activity and both the college students and the middle school students have learned a lot,” said Reading. “We’re looking forward to an outstanding honors fair this year.”
