Clarinet article published
The November issue of “The Instrumentalist” contains an article by Chadron State College woodwind instructor Carola Winkle. The article entitled “Good Clarinet Tone” focuses on basic embouchure and playing habits that are essential in achieving a good sound on the clarinet. Published in Chicago, “The Instrumentalist” is often regarded as the foremost journal in instrumental music.
The article discusses the aspects of clarinet playing such as angle, air, range and equipment. It also delves into the methods of successful practice techniques and exercises.
The latest article is the ninth by Winkle that “The Instrumentalist” has published since 1991. All of the previous articles have dealt with various aspects of the clarinet and clarinet playing including alternate fingerings, clarinet technique and clarinet tone.
In addition, Winkle’s articles have covered aspects of clarinet literature such as clarinet solos, ensembles for clarinet and woodwinds and repertoire for college auditions.
In 1994, one of Winkle’s articles appeared in the “Woodwind Anthology,” which contains selected articles from the monthly journals.
Winkle teaches woodwinds and music education at Chadron State College and is the founder/director of Bordeaux Community Band. She is a Yamaha performing artist on clarinet and is a teacher and president of the International Music Camp on the border between North Dakota and Manitoba.
