Bird flu summit to be shown at CSC

A video feed of Nebraska’s Pandemic Bird Flu Summit at Lincoln will be shown in the Scottsbluff Room of the Chadron State College Student Center at 12:30 p.m. MST Thursday.

The event also will be available on two Chadron cable television channels.

 

It will be shown on Great Plains Communications channel 18 at 12:30 p.m. and re-broadcast on Chadron State College’s channel 20 at 7 p.m. The summit is scheduled to last three hours.

 

The summit, which is being sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, is scheduled to last three hours.

 

One of the event’s special guests will be U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt who is heading the national response effort.

 

Bird flu, more formally known as the H5N1 flu, is a viral disease that causes illness in animals and humans and is considered to be a pandemic threat. At least 91 people have died from the virus, which has been reported in at least 11 countries.
