Renowned speakers Barbara Coloroso of Littleton, Colo., and Aaron Davis of Lincoln will headline the 17th Excellence in Early Childhood Conference at Chadron State College. The conference, which strives to help participants improve child care and education skills, will be Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.

Coloroso will talk about ways to handle bullying and guidance for helping students become self-disciplined, compassionate and responsible.

In addition to being a well-traveled speaker, Coloroso is an author and a consultant for school districts, the medical and business community, the criminal justice system and other educational associations in the United States, Canada, Europe, South America, Asia, New Zealand, Australia and Iceland. Coloroso’s opening keynote address will revisit the topic of her most recent book, “The Bullied, The Bully and the Bystander.”

Like Coloroso, Davis has received high marks from attendees at many conferences. He will talk about the negative impact that poor choices in college and high school have had on his life. Davis is a graduate of the University of Nebraska who was a member of the Cornhuskers’ 1994 national champion football team. He is the author of the book “10 Minute Truths” and the founder of “Truth Enterprises,” which specializes in motivational presentations.

In addition to the presentations by Coloroso and Davis, conference participants will attain information about a wide range of topics related to child care, including innovative ways to incorporate music, art, humor and cooking to a child’s learning experiences, and tips on time management and discipline. The conference’s theme is “United We Stand for Children … As We Discover the Power of Wellness.”

The other conference speakers include Lou Alcorn, Lisa Briggs, Keri Nelson, Robyn Stewart and Judy Stumf, all of Chadron, Sue Erpelding of Cheyenne, Wyo., Candis Jones and Jeanne Murray of Alliance, Cate Jones-Hazledine of Rushville, and Janette Harriott of Kearney.

The registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 17. More information, including the conference schedule and registration information, can be found at www.csc.edu/ecc. The conference’s director, Dr. Kim Madsen, encourages even those who plan to attend the free sessions to submit a registration form.
