Tsunami relief worker to speak at Chadron State
Cindy Golden of Superior, Colo., will tell an audience at Chadron State College about her experiences as a member of the Strategic World Impact Tsunami Relief Team, a Christian ministry which has provided relief at the ravaged Banda Aceh area of Indonesia following the December 2004 disaster. Golden’s presentation, which is free and open to the public, will be Wednesday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Student Center.
Golden said her faith prompted her to join the ministry’s efforts. She was in Indonesia Jan. 11 to Jan. 26.
The Banda Aceh area is regarded as the hardest-hit region of Indonesia. According to CNN, more than 126,000 people died at the Banda Aceh region, while another 500,000 locals were displaced by the tsunami.
Aaron Grow, CSC multicultural counselor, expects the presentation to give the audience a greater understanding of the disaster and the Asian culture.
CSC’s Multicultural Services and Student Academic Success Services are sponsoring the presentation in recognition of Asian/Pacific Islander Month.
