Returning to the Farm workshop coming to CSC

Published:

The University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Chadron State College will present a workshop this month to help farm and ranch families accomplish smooth business succession. “Returning to the Farm” will be presented at the Chadron State College Student Center during two weekends, Feb. 18-19 and Feb. 25-26.

“Basically, this workshop has been set up to help the student who plans to return home to manage the family farm,” said Chuck Butterfield, CSC range management professor. Butterfield is helping Dave Goeller, UNL farm transition specialist, organize the event.

The workshop is recommended for college students, parents, spouses and significant others who plan to farm and ranch together, families currently operating farms or ranches and those who are making business and family decisions. All members of an operation’s management team are encouraged to attend and are expected to be present both weekends.

“Returning to the Farm” will tackle a number of issues related to succession, including recognition of each family’s goals and how to accomplish them through proven business practices and capitalizing on individuals’ strengths.

Registration is $200, plus $10 for each family member who attends. Students can earn two hours of college credit from Chadron State if they pay the required tuition and fees in addition to registration. Deadline for preregistration is Friday, Feb. 11.

More information and registration materials may be obtained by contacting Butterfield at (308) 432-6274 or cbutterfield@csc.edu, or Goeller at (402) 472-0661 or dgoeller2@unl.edu.
