For the second year, Chadron State College will help with Nebraska’s birthday party. Officially known as Nebraska Statehood Day, the observance will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24 in the Student Center Ballroom.

About 120 elementary students from Crawford to Gordon, will be attending. A majority of the students are in the fourth grade, the year that they study Nebraska history.

The program will be led by Nebraska Secretary of State John Gale. He will read the statehood proclamation and ask several questions pertaining to Nebraska history.

A group of Chadron State MENC students directed by Carola Winkle will provide entertainment. Members of the Chadron National Guard Unit will post the colors and CSC student Jolana Milburn will sing the National Anthem.

Songs such as “Beautiful Nebraska” and “God Bless America” will be sung during the program.

Chartwell’s, the food service at Chadron State, is baking 34 dozen cookies shaped like Nebraska to be handed out as the students leave the program. The cookies are being frosted red, white and blue.
