Melissa Huber to give piano recital

A senior piano recital will be given by Melissa Huber of Sturgis, S.D., at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 in the Chicoine Atrium of the Sandoz Center at Chadron State College.

Huber is a music education major and has been a vital member of numerous groups at CSC the past four years. She is an accompanist as well as a frequent soloist for the instrumental jazz ensemble and is the accompanist for the men’s vocal ensemble. In addition, she is a member of the percussion ensemble and plays percussion for the wind ensemble.

The chairman of the Chadron State music department, Dr. Sandy Schaefer said, "Melissa is certainly one of the most talented piano student we have had at CSC in the past six years. She is a wonderful pianist. Her recital will be great."

During her recital, Huber will play numbers by J.S. Bach, Hayden and Chopin.

Huber said she took piano lessons from Brenda Schaffer in Sturgis from age nine through high school. Since coming to Chadron State, she has studied under Dr. Will Baily and James Margetts.

This spring, she will be in her professional semester at CSC. She will student teach next fall. She hopes to direct a middle school band following graduation in December 2006.
