Mallets and Ivory Concert is Sunday
An array of Christmas music will be presented during the Mallets and Ivory Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11 in Memorial Hall at Chadron State College. There will be no admission charge.
Mallets and Ivory is the collaboration between the CSC keyboard ensemble directed by James Margetts and the CSC percussion ensemble directed by Dr. Sandy Schaefer.
“This is the perfect holiday concert that everyone, young and old, can appreciate,” said Schaefer. “The music is fun and the sounds are unique.”
Among the highlights will be Karin Keller singing her favorite Christmas selections.
The concert was begun four years ago by Schaefer and Will Baily, who was Margetts’ predecessor as the primary keyboard professor at CSC. Margetts readily agreed to continue the new tradition when he arrived at CSC two years ago. He said the concert provides “an exhilarating, modern take on traditional Christmas music.”
Orders for CDs of the performance will be taken at the concert. They will be produced and delivered in time for Christmas presents. Proceeds from the sale of the CDs will be used for scholarships for the students who perform at the concert.
