Some April Fool will walk away the winner of a white 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada after a contest at Chadron State College next week. The vehicle, which was donated by six Chadron car dealers, will be awarded to a student who is able to withstand the elements and keep his or her hand on a vehicle for 24 hours beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, April 1.

The contest will be at the CSC Dean’s Green, the area north of the Administration Building. To reduce crowding, six other vehicles will be used for the contest. If more than one student lasts the 24 hours, a winner will be declared by drawing from a deck of playing cards.

A panel of students chose the sport-utility vehicle Wednesday after “shopping” at Eisenbarth Motors, GMC of Chadron, Miskimins Motors, Paris Fisher Auto, Tommy’s Car Lot and Wahlstrom Ford – the six businesses that agreed to contribute toward its purchase. The Bravada, which is valued at approximately $5,000, has been placed on display near the Lindeken Clocktower.

Kellee Gooder, a Chadron State admissions representative, spearheaded the “hand on the car” competition to give CSC students a fun, safe activity during the annual Scholastic Contest, a day in which college students are relieved from classes to make room for the 1,800 or more high school students who will be on campus to take tests.

Tickets to enter the competition are being sold to students for $5. They may be purchased at the CSC Student Center weekdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., or from Gooder at room 107 of Crites Hall.

Sharon Rickenbach, director of Student Academic Success Services, said many other activities for CSC students have been scheduled at the Dean’s Green beginning at 1:30 p.m. that day, including miniature golf, bocce ball, badminton, basketball and board games. Rickenbach said members of the CSC volleyball team and International Club have already committed to taking part in the festivities.

A free barbecue for the students will begin at 3:30 p.m., and door prizes, concessions and entertainment will be provided.
