Services are pending for Minnie Lichte (pronounced Lick-tee), a lifelong Dawes County resident and long-time Chadron State College chemistry professor who died earlier this week in Yuma, Ariz., at age 96.

Lichte was born in the Dunlap area, where her parents had homesteaded. She graduated from Chadron State in 1932. Immediately after receiving the degree, she was hired as an assistant in the chemistry and physics laboratories. After earning a master’s degree at Iowa State University in 1937, she was employed as a science instructor at CSC, and remained on the college faculty until retiring in 1974. All told, she was employed by the college 42 years.
