Chadron emergency crews responded Friday morning when the fire sprinkler on the fifth floor of Chadron State College’s High Rise residence hall soaked about six rooms on the floor’s west side and spread water to several rooms below.

Ed Hoffman, Chadron State vice president for administration, said a sensor on a sprinkler head in a student’s room was triggered because a decoration that was hanging from it caused it to break. Students evacuated the building and fire trucks arrived at about 10 a.m.

No injuries were reported and students were allowed back in the building within an hour. Chadron State’s maintenance personnel, armed with high-powered vacuums, soon began cleaning the mess.

Hoffman praised the quick response of Chadron’s emergency crews and Chadron State’s maintenance department.
