FFA contests at Chadron State College

Three students repeated as purple ribbon winners Wednesday during the District 12 Future Farmers of America Leadership Skills Events hosted by Chadron State College. More than 100 high school students from nine western Nebraska schools participated.

The repeat winners included Rebecca Dreyer of Gordon-Rushville in Natural Resources Speaking and Lane Skavdahl of Sioux County High at Harrison in Extemporaneous Speaking. In addition, Andie Cross of Sioux County won the top purple given in Senior Public Speaking this year after earning a purple in the junior division last year.

Kimball won this year’s Senior Parliamentary Procedure competition. Five of the six members were on the team that earned a purple ribbon in the junior division a year ago. This year’s team members are Maggie Baliman, D. J. Ballard, Mark Green, Lanelle Janicek, Ryan Lukassen and Sara Novotny.

Novotny also earned the top purple in the Job Interview contest Wednesday.

Those earning purple ribbons are eligible to enter the state contests in April. The first blue ribbon recipients will serve as alternates.

The purple and blue ribbon winners in each of the 10 contests follow:

Creed Speaking: Purples—Kali Autry, Kimball, and Jodi Bowlin, Cody-Kilgore. Blues—Kristen Burgess, Hyannis; Marshall Everett, Creek Valley; Trent Bannan, Sioux County; and Torie Lindsey, Gordon-Rushville. Reds—Tessa Armstrong, Bayard, and Rachel Nerud, Bayard.

Junior Public Speaking: Purples—Lauren Perry, Kimball, and Jennifer McMurtry, Bayard. Blues—Lane Grote, Sioux County; Shaylee Jobman, Bayard; and Cody Pudella, Scottsbluff. Reds—Justin Nollette, Cody-Kilgore; Miranda Franklin, Creek Valley; and Michel Hilliker, Gordon-Rushville.

Senior Public Speaking: Purples—Andie Cross, Sioux County, and McKenzie Steger, Creek Valley. Blues—Kate Kraenow, Hemingford; Ryan Lukassen, Kimball; Kayla Black, Scottsbluff; and Jacob Hoffman, Bayard. Reds—Heidi Nollette, Cody-Kilore; Vicki Armstrong, South Platte; and Cody Wells, Gordon-Rushville.

Extemporaneous Speaking: Purple—Lane Skavdahl, Sioux County. Blues—Dustin Wilke, Kimball, and Robin Bowlin, Cody-Kilgore. Reds—Gabe Nielsen, Gordon, and Shelly Linemann, Scottsbluff.

Natural Resources Speaking: Purple—Rebecca Dreyer, Gordon-Rushville. Blues—Nicki Grote, Sioux County, and Brock Tjosvold, Kimball. Reds—Samantha Adams, Hemingford, and Anne Wicker, Cody-Kilgore.

Cooperative Speaking: Purple—Blake Becker, Alliance. Blue—Emily Bauer, Scottsbluff. Reds—Sierra Rose, Gordon-Rushville, and Allen Jordan, Sioux County.

Job Interview: Purples—Sarah Novotny, Kimball, and Kelsey Rager, Gordon-Rushville. Blues—Stephanie Bryant, Cody-Kilgore; Christie Fulk, Scottsbluff; and Beckly Grimm, Sioux County. Reds—Aaron Bond, Creek Valley; Shea Henderson, Alliance; and LeRee McCoy, Hemingford.
