The driver of a Chevrolet Lumina, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Chadron Community Hospital after her vehicle collided with a stone lamp post and Nebraska State Historical Society marker on the campus of Chadron State College on Monday. The accident happened just before 8 a.m.

Police officers said the vehicle was southbound on Main Street before crossing the 10th Street intersection and striking the lamp post and marker.

Although officials did not comment about the cause of the accident, witnesses at the scene said the driver had an epileptic seizure.

The lamp post is one of four placed at CSC’s entrances. Constructed of rocks and mortar, they are dated 1926.
