Carla Giger of Alliance has been appointed Chadron State College’s student representative on the Board of Trustees of the Nebraska State College System. The appointment was announced today by Gov. Dave Heineman.

Giger, who is a senior legal studies student, is seeking a minor in political science, and said she has an interest in board proceedings. Although student positions on the board are non-voting, Giger said she hopes to play in important role.

“I hope I can ignite student interest in the board and do a good job of relaying the decisions that the board makes,” she said.

Giger, who transferred to Chadron State after two years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, also is a member of the CSC Legal Studies Club, an officer in the Political Science Club and works as a criminal administrative assistant in the Dawes County Attorney’s Office. She plans to attend law school and hopes to someday become a judge.

She is one of the first students to be chosen as a leader for CSC’s new Supplemental Instruction program. For SI, she attends classes and leads a study group for a history course in which she excelled. The course was selected for the program because its challenging nature leads to a relatively high dropout rate.

The new student appointments from the three state colleges will begin attending meetings in June. Giger is the second consecutive Chadron State legal studies student to be selected for the position. She succeeds Kari Daly of Hershey, a fellow legal studies student and friend who encouraged her to apply.

Giger graduated from Alliance High School in 1999.

The other students appointed to positions on the board are Heath Daniel Christansen of Verdon, a junior at Peru State, and Lucas Richard Vergil of Weston, a sophomore at Wayne State.
