CSC Scholastic Contest is Friday

Published:

Some 1,850 students from 57 high schools in Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming are entered in the 45th annual Inter-High School Scholastic Contest at Chadron State College on Friday, April 1. Forty-nine tests will be administered, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at various locations on campus.

The contest is believed to be the oldest and largest in the High Plains Region that includes testing over nearly every subject area. Students may take up to three tests. More than 100 students are entered in several of the tests.

Plaques will be awarded to the schools scoring the most points in each of the contest’s five divisions that are determined by enrollments. Medals will be awarded to the top three individuals in each test. Seniors who place first in a test are the recipients of a scholastic achievement award that covers the in-state portion of the tuition at Chadron State for the 2004-05 school year.

Three of last year’s first-place winners are freshmen at CSC this year. They are Ashley McCoy of Crawford, Matt Hines of Sturgis,, S.D., and Lacey Swayne of Gordon.

Several activities are planned for students when they are not taking tests. They include horse-drawn wagon rides, karaoke, a trivia contest, a scavenger hunt and basketball and volleyball in the Nelson Physical Activity Center. The CSC football team will have a spring practice scrimmage at 10 a.m. that will be open to the public.
