Chadron State College piano professor, James Margetts, will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3 in the Chicoine Atrium of the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. This will be the first recital he has given since joining the college last fall. The recital will be open to the public without charge, but the event will kick off a fund-raising effort to purchase the Yamaha piano that is in the atrium. The piano is on loan from a Scottsbluff business.

“The Chicoine Atrium has great acoustics and a nice open atmosphere for a recital,” said Margetts. “This will be the first in a series of programs that we have planned in the atrium to help purchase the piano.”

The fund-raising effort is being coordinated by the Chadron State Foundation. All the contributions will be tax deductible.

Margetts will perform “Partita No. 1 in B-Flat Major” by Johann Sebastian Bach, “Fantasy in C Major” (Wanderer) by Franz Schubert, “Schubert Variations” by Lee Hoiby and “Mephisto Waltz No. 1” by Franz Liszt.

Margetts teaches applied piano, piano studio operations and music literature. He has about 30 piano students.

He holds degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he is a candidate for the doctor of musical arts degree. He has previously taught at Aims Community College in Greeley, Colo., and Millikin University in Decatur, Ill., and was a staff accompanist at BYU. He has appeared as both a soloist and a collaborative artist at venues across the U.S. He also performed in Mexico last year.

He and his wife Colleen have three children.
