CSC graduate honored in South Dakota
A Chadron State College graduate has been selected as the South Dakota Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year for 2005-06 by that state’s Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
The honoree is Tari Nelson Phares, who teaches at Black Hawk and Horace Mann Elementary Schools in Rapid City.
She is a 1991 graduate of Chadron State, where she played basketball and was an honor student. She was selected as the outstanding player on the CSC women’s basketball team in 1989-90 and graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 3.85.
Phares was cited during the recognition program in Spearfish last week for “her dedication and commitment to her students and her concern for their physical well-being.”
It was further stated that she is constantly on the lookout for new ideas that will not only improve her program but to provide a challenge for her students.
