CSC choir concert is Sunday
The Chadron State College concert choir directed by Dr. Joel Schreuder will present a concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 3 at the United Methodist Church in Chadron. The 13-member select chamber ensemble and a men’s ensemble also will be featured.
The choral program will include one of J.S. Bach’s major works, "Lobet Denn Herrn.” During the number, the choir’s accompanists, Ashley Grey of Valentine and Melissa Huber of Sturgis, S.D., will be playing clavinovas to simulate continuos.
“Caballo Viejo” is a Spanish piece with a catchy syncopated beat, Schreuder said. Dr. Sandy Schaefer will be playing the congas for the number.
Several sacred songs also are on the program. They include "Walkin' Down That Glory Road," "I'm Going Home" and "Steal Away," which has Jolana Milburn and Karin Keller as soloists.
The chamber ensemble that will be performing was organized last December to go caroling. When the group sounded so good, it decided to continue practicing and sing at the spring concert. Its selections will include a folklore-type piece, a French number and “Rise Up, My Love, My Fair One.”
The men’s ensemble will sing two numbers, “O Beautiful Spinning Wheel” in Italian and “Aura Lee,” which is the tune Elvis Presley used for his hit, “Love Me Tender.”
Advance tickets for the concert may be obtained by contacting the Memorial Hall box office at 432-6360. They are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and youths 18 and under. All tickets at the door will be $6.
