Crowd at CSC walks for King
A group of students, faculty, staff and Chadron community members participated in a walk sponsored by Chadron State College to honor Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday.
About 50 people participated in the 10-block walk which ended at Chadron State’s Lindeken Clocktower with a fiery speech by freshman Jovan Mays, an African-American student from Aurora, Colo. The walkers listened as King’s “I Have a Dream” speech blared from a portable stereo along the route.
The walk was one of several events scheduled at Chadron State for African-American Month. In addition, Chadron State plans to host race relations activist Daryl Davis of Silver Spring, Md. His presentation will be Saturday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Student Center.
