A Colorado woman who visited 25 other colleges and universities four years ago before choosing to attend Chadron State College received two of the major honors during Ivy Day at CSC Friday evening.

Amy Madison of Woodland Park, Colo., was crowned the Ivy Day queen and also received the Platinum Eagle Award for women. The latter award is given by the Student Senate for “distinguished leadership and service,” and is considered one of the highest honors a Chadron State student can receive.

The Ivy Day king is Carl Fanning of Bayard while the male recipient of the Platinum Eagle Award is Michael Donner of Burwell.

Madison is an elementary education major. This past year, she was the special events coordinator for the Campus Activities Board, treasurer of the Student Senate, secretary of the Lions Club and a Presidential Diplomat.

Besides being Ivy Day king, Fanning received the award as the outstanding senior in marketing and graduated Magna Cum Laude, which requires a grade point average of at least 3.75.

Like Madison, Donner is a four-year member of the Student Senate, and served as chief justice this year. He also was a resident adviser and a member of the Health Professions Club and Circle K. He will attend the University of Nebraska Medical Center to study medicine, beginning this fall.

The first attendants to the Ivy Day royalty were Kelly Kuzel of Schuyler and Anthony Ybarra of Gering. Ybarra and Tessa Dormann of Mitchell were the first runners-up for the Platinum Eagle Awards.

The second attendants were Chelsie Lammers of Wood River and Doug Lynch of Hot Springs, S.D. Lynch also was the Ivy Day orator representing Blue Key National Honorary Society. The Cardinal Key orator was Heather Murphy of Atkinson.
