Dr. William Winkle, who is retiring from Chadron State College this year as director of bands, received the distinguished service award from the Nebraska State Bandmasters Association at its annual conference earlier this month.

The association also presented Winkle with a gavel for his service as past president and plaques for his dedication to the association and his work as a college bandmaster.

In addition, Winkle was recently recognized by the Nebraska Legislature for his 34 years at Chadron State. Legislative Resolution 40, which noted some of his achievements, was introduced by the Panhandle’s three state senators, Leroy Louden of Ellsworth, Adrian Smith of Gering and Phil Erdman of Bayard.
